  • Personal Data We Collect
    a. Personal Data Provided by You
    In connection with your use of Bank of Ireland CardController, we ask you for certain personal data upon registration, on applications forms or other forms, such as your name, email address, billing address, card number, CV2 (security code), card expiration date, user name, password, and parameters to be defined by you for transaction alert communications.

    b. Personal Data We Collect Automatically
    We also may collect certain information (such as device identifiers like the IMEI number, MAC address and IP address) by automated means (such as cookies and web beacons) when you visit our website and/or use our mobile application.

    Cookies are miniature files consisting of a chain of letters and numerals that the server stores on your computer or mobile device when you enter an application that uses this technology. Among other things, cookies allow the site operator to differentiate you from other visitors and users of this site. Cookies cannot be used as code or to spread viruses and cannot give us access to your hard drive. Even though cookies are stored on your device, we cannot retrieve any information from it.   • How We Use the Personal Data We Collect
    We may use the personal data we obtain about you to:

    • Create and manage your online account, provide our products and services, and respond to your inquiries;
    • Validate your payment card information;
    • Provide, administer and communicate with you as needed with the aim of taking surveys and/or to have interviews with you in relation to Bank of Ireland CardController;
    • When mobile app is provided: send you account activity alert messages via SMS or push notification on a mobile phone. To receive these messages you must have a smartphone and have downloaded and installed the Bank of Ireland CardController mobile application;
    • Send you account activity alert email messages to the email address that you have registered in your Bank of Ireland CardController account;
    • Provide you with online access to information details about your transactions history and to your alerts history through the course of the past sixty (60) days;
    • Provide you with customer service related to the use of your card, card account or any alerts that you may have set and/or used through the Bank of Ireland CardController;
    • Perform data analyses (including anonymization of personal information) to determine, among other measurements, business performance, number of registrants, channels, transaction spend and site performance;
    • Enforce our Bank of Ireland CardController User Terms of Use;
    • Comply with applicable legal requirements and industry standards and our policies; and
    • Perform auditing, research and analysis in order to maintain, protect and improve our services.

    We also may use the information in other ways for which we provide specific notice at the time of collection.

  • Personal Data We Share
    We do not sell or otherwise disclose personal data we collect about you, except as described in this Privacy Policy or otherwise disclosed to you at the time the data is collected.

    We may share personal data with service providers who operate this service on our behalf (including MasterCard). We do not authorize these service providers to use or disclose the data except as necessary to perform certain services on our behalf or comply with legal requirements. The right to access personal information may be limited in some circumstances by local law requirements.

    With Bank of Ireland CardController, you can, at any time, access your information by logging into your Bank of Ireland CardController account. You can view or change your personal account details and manage your settings for transactions alerts.

  • How We Protect Personal Data
    Together with MasterCard, we maintain appropriate administrative, technical and physical safeguards to protect personal data against accidental or unlawful destruction, accidental loss, unauthorized alteration, unauthorized disclosure or access, misuse, and any other unlawful form of processing of the personal data in our possession. We also take measures to destroy or permanently de-identify personal information when there is no longer a business need to keep the information and in any case Bank of Ireland Group may store your personal data until you have completely un-registered from the Bank of Ireland CardController. Through the Bank of Ireland CardController website or by contacting our call centre, you may request to un-register at any time. The types of measures we take may vary with the type of information, and how it is collected and stored.

    When you provide personal data online, we use the industry standard for encryption on the Internet – Transport Layer Security (TLS) technology – to help protect the data that you provide. This Internet encryption standard scrambles data as it travels from your device to our server. You will know that you are in a secure area of the Site when a lock icon appears on your screen that the “http” prefix of our URL address changes to “https”. The “s” represents “secure”. We also use digital certificates to ensure that you are connected to the authentic Site.

    We will never ask you for your password in any unsolicited communication (including unsolicited correspondence, such as letters, phone calls or e-mail messages).
